How to Upload Your Files
Detailed instructions for using the following methods for FTP uploading are listed here: Windows Internet Explorer, WS_FTP, Fetch, and net2ftp. For more information on FTP uploading in general, continue reading below.
To upload your files over the Internet, you must have software with FTP capability. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. FTP is the way the internet was designed to transfer non-text files. (Email, on the other hand, was designed for sending text files.) Internet Explorer (5.0 and higher for Windows), WS_FTP (for Windows), and Fetch (for Mac) are a few of the common programs with FTP capability. If you don't have one of these programs, you can click on one of these links to download WS_FTP for Windows or Fetch for Mac. (Some of our customers also recommend FileZilla, which is a free open source FTP program. You can download FileZilla from their web site at Source Forge.)
There is also a free web-based FTP service, called net2ftp, available here. Net2ftp is operating system independent and so should work with any computer and any browser you are using. (This link will open in a separate window. Our instructions are here).
If you are uploading many individual files, as is typically the case with jpg files (as opposed to PowerPoint files where one file can contain many slides), please name your files in such a way that makes them easy to identify as yours. For example, you could name all your files starting with your initials. Alternatively, you can combine your separate files into one zip file and then upload just that one zip file. In either case, you will have to tell us on your order form, which file or files are yours since everyone uploads to the same page. Please note, you cannot upload (create) a folder on our FTP site. You can only upload files.
Once you have uploaded your files, submit an on-line order form, to tell us the names of your files, when you need your slides, delivery address, and other order information.
Please do not send email attachments, except as a last resort. Email attachments can tie up our email access for long periods of time. We need to keep our email access open for regular text messages, customer support, and order forms. There will be a $5 special handling fee for jobs submitted as email attachments. Call us at 1-800-296-1885 for the correct email address for attachments. (We don't post the address here because of spammers.)
Instructions for Intenet Explorer users (IE 5.0 or higher for Windows)
- Go to the IQ Imaging main web page (www.iqimaging.com) and click on "Upload Here". You will be transferred to a page entitled: Current directory is /incoming/slides. This is our FTP site. (On some versions of Window XP, you may need to select the "Open for FTP" option located on the "Page" pull-down menu, to activate the FTP functions.)
- In a separate window, using My Computer, or Windows Explorer, locate the file or files you wish to upload.
- Highlight the file or files to upload, and drag and drop them onto our FTP site in the Internet Explorer window. This will start the upload process. As an alternative to the "drag and drop" method, you can do a "copy and paste". In Windows you do this with a right click on the file name to bring up the copy and paste options. If you get a "permission denied" error, it means a file by that name already exists on that site - try renaming your file. (Note, you can only upload files, not directories or folders.)
- If, instead of being uploaded, your image is simply displayed, your Internet Options settings may need to be corrected. You can verify and correct the settings as follows:
- Go to the start menu.
- Go to settings.
- Click on control panel.
- Click on internet options.
- Go to the "advanced" tab. This is where you will see a list of all your settings for Internet Explorer. The first section is called "accessibility" and the second section is called "browsing".
- Scroll down towards the bottom of "browsing". You should see an item called either "Enable folder view for FTP sites" or "Use web based FTP".
- Enable folder view for FTP sites should be selected.
- Use web based FTP should not be selected.
- If you have a firewall that restricts outgoing files, you may need to select "Use Passive FTP for compatibility with some firewalls and DSL modems" (This is not often necessary)
- Click on "OK" to save the settings.
With these settings, Internet Explorer should now allow you to upload your files.
- When you get the message that the transfer is complete, your file should be listed on the web page. Check to make sure your file is listed and that the file size is correct.
- Fill out the on-line order form to give us your shipping address, schedule, and other order information. You will receive an automatic email confirmation once your order form has been received.
